India’s fast bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has defended the team’s bowlers against growing criticism, saying that the tough schedule and mental stress are the main things that are hurting their performance. The bowling team has been criticized after several high-scoring West Indies chases in the current T20I series. The decider is set for October 17 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
At a press conference held at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in Bengaluru on Friday, October 16, Morne Morkel talked about what was going on. He said that social media and expectations put a lot of pressure on India’s bowling attack, but he also said that critics often forget about the human side.
The mental fatigue and the busy schedule
Some members of the squad have had a particularly hard time with the travel. There were players who competed in the Asian Games before they were thrown right into the West Indies series. The gold winners at the Asian Games had to fly to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Modi for a presentation before going to Bengaluru to join the team for the final.
Morkel pointed out that rest and recovery have a direct effect on how well you do on the field.
He used the sudden change from the Asian Games to the West Indies series and then the move to New Zealand as examples of how busy the team’s schedule was.
defending the players in the face of criticism
A lot of people have said bad things about the bowling in this game. India’s bowlers held West Indies to 171 runs in the first T20I. This time, though, they couldn’t protect 249, giving up 209 runs during a 223-run chase. The bowlers gave up 247 runs in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad. Mayank Yadav gave up 52 runs in four overs, and Arshdeep Singh gave up 52 runs before he had to leave the game because he hurt his shoulder.

Morkel said he was confident in his bowling team, even though they had some recent setbacks. He said that when judging these players’ work, the mental stress and expectations that are put on them should be taken into account.
