This is the former Indian pacer’s first head coaching role in the Indian Premier League. The squad, which finished ninth in the IPL 2026 and missed the playoffs for three straight seasons, will benefit from his extensive teaching experience.

The cricket management agreed that he was a good fit based on his IPL experience, and MS Dhoni recommended him. Zaheer Khan was a bowling coach and instructor for the Lucknow Super Giants in 2025 before joining CSK. During his four years as the Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket and Head of Global Development, he built a strong name in franchise cricket.

“The game gave me numerous chapters. There were chapters that put me to the test. Changed me. And provided me memories I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. However, the game has never really been about looking back. “Because each chapter leads to the next,” remarked Zaheer Khan in a CSK promo.

He appeared in 100 IPL games and took 102 wickets at an economy rate of approximately 7.6, demonstrating his consistency in the shortest format.
