India has selected Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant for the forthcoming two-match Test series in New Zealand. Fitness clearance is required for Pant to participate in the series.
Jasprit Bumrah will not be in the ODI squad; however, he will return to lead the attack in the Test series, which commences with the first game in Wellington on November 19. Since November 2025, he has not participated in a Test match.
Bumrah’s workload will be managed to ensure that he is ready to participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be held in Africa in October-November of that year, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in early 2019. This is part of the comprehensive plans that India’s think tank, which includes selectors and Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, developed earlier this year.
Bumrah’s most recent appearance was at the Asian Games in Japan, where India secured the gold medal.
He is presently engaged in his routine training at his residence in Ahmedabad. Prior to his departure for New Zealand, he is anticipated to visit the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru to participate in fitness exercises.
Pant sustained a side strain while captaining Rest of India in the recent Irani Cup, during which he played a sweep in the first innings. Subsequently, he was disqualified from the initial two unofficial Tests against New Zealand A. He is anticipated to participate in the third unofficial Test in Lincoln from November 7 to November 10. Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Anshul Kamboj are also anticipated to participate in the third unofficial Test.
Prasidh Krishna was selected for India’s Test squad; however, his participation in the ODI series that preceded it is contingent upon his fitness.
It is understood by Cricinfo that Prasidh’s scans only indicated a left hamstring strain, not an injury. The fast bowler has dedicated the past two weeks to S&C (Strength and Conditioning) work, recovery, massages, and mobility drills. He was selected for the ODI squad for only the first three games.
After demonstrating his fitness and form in the Irani Cup and, more recently, in the first round of the Ranji Trophy for Bengal, Akash Deep was reinstated in India’s Test squad. Kamboj also returned to the Test team after making his debut in Manchester in July 2025. Nitish Kumar Reddy, a seam-bowling allrounder, and Mohammed Siraj will provide the attack with additional depth.
There was no room for Manav Suthar, who in Sri Lanka amassed an unprecedented 16 wickets in four innings. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were selected by India to accompany Kuldeep Yadav on the New Zealand Test tour as spin-bowling allrounders.

B Sai Sudharsan returned to the squad, potentially as a backup batter, after being sidelined from the Test series in Sri Lanka due to a toe injury. He had recently resumed playing in the four-day and one-day series against Australia A in Puducherry.
