Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, has submitted an application for the senior national selector position in men’s cricket. This position was left vacant after the BCCI declined to renew Ajit Agarkar’s contract. Jaffer confirmed his application to PTI.

Wasim Jaffer, who was 48 years old, participated in 31 Tests and scored five centuries, including double tons against Pakistan and the West Indies. He scored 1944 runs at an average of 34.10 during his Test career, which spanned from 2000 to 2008. In 2006, Jaffer participated in only two ODIs.

However, Wasim Jaffer boasts an impressive domestic cricket background.

He has scored the most centuries in the history of the Ranji Trophy and is the highest run-getter. Across 260 matches in all first-class cricket, he has scored 1,140,000 runs and hit 57 centuries, with an average of over 50. He initiated his senior cricket career with Mumbai during the 1996-97 season and subsequently retired from all forms of cricket while playing for Vidarbha.

Wasim Jaffer would be the chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) if he were chosen by the committee, which consists of Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape. This is due to the fact that he has the most Test appearances among the candidates being considered for the position.

Jaffer has played seven more Tests than Pragyan Ojha, who has 24 Test caps. RP Singh, Ajay Ratra, and Shiv Sunder Das are the other selectors, in addition to Ojha.
