Saqlain Mushtaq has dared former Pakistan selector Tauseef Khan to produce an alleged audio tape implicating him in the selection of his son-in-law Shadab Khan. The row is over comments made by Tauseef, who was Pakistan’s acting chief selector in 2023, about correspondence he received on the subject of Shadab’s selection for the national squad.

Tauseef said he had been told to expect a call from someone on behalf of Saqlain Mushtaq and he got a call asking him to go easy on the pick of Shadab. He said Saqlain Mushtaq had left a voicemail for him concerning Shadab. Tauseef is said to have gone to the media with these allegations.

“He (Saqlain) doesn’t look at anyone other than Shadab. And they talk about such stuff… Man, there is a limit, bro! “There is a limit to favouritism!,” Tauseef stated in Fawad Alam show as quoted by Cricket News. “Who is holding their hand from above on you? I was phone contacted and instructed, ‘You stay calm.’ Recording… recording – which was delivered later on,’ he added.

Meanwhile Saqlain Mushtaq stated he called Tauseef out of respect and denied any bias. Tauseef says he was threatened with the public release of his personal record.

In response to the charges, Saqlain Mushtaq threatened to release recordings of his own.

The alleged audio and any other supporting material have not been made public by any side. The two sides have made differing assertions about the nature and substance of communications involved and the issue remains unresolved.

Saqlain Mushtaq holds important positions in Pakistani cricket, such as the head coach of the national team and an employee of the National Cricket Academy. His daughter Malika is married to Pakistani cricket star Shadab Khan, and allegations of bias.
