Due to still being hurt in his left hamstring and calf, Will O’Rourke will not be able to play in New Zealand’s home match against India. The fast bowler hurt his leg during a workout in late August. This was after tearing his hamstring on the last day of New Zealand’s third Test match against England in June. It was decided to keep O’Rourke out so that he would have enough time to heal before the busy international schedule that is coming up.

The New Zealand coach, Rob Walter, explained the team’s strategic reason for the absence. From October 22 to October 25, there will be five Twenty20 Internationals. Two Tests and five one-day internationals will be played from November 19 to December 1.

Will O’Rourke has been hurt since he returned to international cricket earlier this year after being out for seven months with a stress fracture in his back. Since his first Test match in 2024, he has taken 49 wickets at an average of just under 25 in 14 games. Will O’Rourke took ten wickets as New Zealand beat England 2-1 in a Test series in June, but he couldn’t play because he hurt his leg.

Coach Walter went over the big picture of New Zealand’s schedule as well as the steps they will take to help Will O’Rourke get better.

The pace bowling team will have to deal with heavy demands across a number of formats and tours in the coming months. This will require smart resource management.
