Sanju Samson has had a rough time with the bat since India won the T20 World Cup in March 2026. In the last few T20Is, the starting batter has had trouble staying consistent, which has made people wonder about his form and role on the team.

Hanuma Vihari talked about Samson’s recent problems and pointed out that the batter is under a lot of pressure from new players. Vihari pointed out that the established player is having a hard time because of his low scores and the rise of new players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The numbers Sanju Samson has put up in his last 11 T20I games are not good. His scores in the games since the World Cup have been 5, 0, 1, 27, 10, 57, 50, 9, 7, 2, and 11. He has scored 179 runs, with an average of 16.27.

Problems have been clear in a number of competitions. Saman scored seven runs in the Asian Games 2026 semifinals against Sri Lanka and two runs in the final against Pakistan. In a one-off T20I against Japan, he also scored 9.

Sanju Samson did have a good run against Afghanistan, though.

He scored 117 runs in three games and hit two half-centuries, which shows that his basic skills are still good even though he has been having a rough patch lately.

The pressure grew after India’s first T20I match against West Indies on October 6 in Lucknow. India beat Pakistan by eight wickets in that match, with Sanju Samson scoring 11 runs off of 9 balls. Shreyas Iyer was captain of the team and scored his first T20I hundred as they chased a 170-plus score. The job was done in less than 15 overs.

At the leadership level, there was still support for Sanju Samson, even though there were concerns about his form. The people in charge of the team said they wanted to keep starting pairs Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson for a while longer, but Vaibhav would wait for more chances to prove himself in the team.
