On Sunday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board told Cricbuzz that Nahida Akter had been named as Bangladesh’s new T20I captain. Sobhana Mostary is made vice-captain, and Nigar Sultana is replaced by Nahida.

It was said that Nahida Akter would be the best person to take over Sultana’s role as T20I captain after the Asian Games so that she could focus more on her game.

“We decided to give Nahida Akter the T20I captaincy after meeting with members of the selection panel and other people,” the report said.

Rafiqul Islam, who is in charge of the BCB women’s team, told Cricbuzz on Sunday that Sobhana Mostary will back her up.

Rafiqul said that Nahida Akter should be in charge since she had been the team’s vice-captain since Sultana became T20I captain in 2022.

Rafiqul said, “We believe the time is right to give Nahida the responsibility of our T20I squad because she has been the vice-captain for a pretty long time.”

Even though Sultana quit as T20I captain, she will still lead the ODI team, just like she did during the most recent three-match ODI tour of Australia. Sultana’s choice caught the BCB off guard, but the wicketkeeper-batter was unhappy with how the board had been treating her lately.
