There will be one Test match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the UAE from October 9–13, 2026. On September 19, 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board named a 15-person team for the match. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the team in this match as he continues as Test captain.
Middle-order batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque, who have been important to Bangladesh’s Test hitting for many years, make up the team. Along with specialist openers Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam, Soumya Sarkar is a left-handed choice at the top of the order. Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy give the team more options at bat, and Jaker Ali Anik is added as a second wicketkeeper.
The spin attack is led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. The pace group is made up of Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury, and Shoriful Islam. Nayeem Hasan, Musfik Hasan, and Iqbal Hossain Emon have been named as reserves. They will cover the batting, spin, and pace positions.
The one-off Test is part of a larger international program with games in different formats that will take place in the UAE in October and November 2026. Afghanistan will host both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe during this time. There will be an ODI tri-series with all three countries, as well as T20I and Test matches between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
Why isn’t this Test being played in Afghanistan but in the UAE?
For several years, Afghanistan has used the UAE as a neutral site for home international games because they can’t host games on their own land for security and logistical reasons. This is how things have always been set up for the one-off Test against Bangladesh. The board has not yet confirmed the exact location in the UAE.
The schedule for October and November 2026 shows that Afghanistan will continue to use neutral venues to meet their international obligations in all formats. By hosting Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in the UAE, Afghanistan can hold a full multi-format series without the problems that come with hosting international cricket in their own country.
Who is on the Bangladesh team for this Test?
Bangladesh has picked a balanced team with people who are good at both batting and bowling. The bowlers with the most caps are Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque. They have been important to Bangladesh’s Test middle order for many years. Along with the two specialist openers, Soumya Sarkar gives the team a left-handed option at the top of the order. This gives the batting lineup variety right from the start.
There are a lot of spin bowlers, like Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam, who can both bowl for long periods of time and contribute with the bat in the lower order. The four-pronged pace attack gives the selectors options based on the pitch conditions in the UAE, where fast and slow pitches can both work well. The three reserves give the team extra coverage in case any member of the main squad gets sick before the game.
