There are only two players who have listed themselves at the maximum base price of INR 50 lakh: Sophie Molineux, the captain of Australia, and Sophia Dunkley, the batter for England. On October 28 in Kochi, a total of 146 players will be vying for 27 available slots in the WPL 2027 mini auction.

There are 20 positions available for Indian players in the auction pool, which includes 119 Indian players, including 22 capped and 97 uncapped players. Seven slots are available, and the overseas pool consists of 27 players, with 14 capped and 13 uncapped players, six of whom are from Associate teams.

The second-highest basic price of INR 40 lakh has been registered by G Kamalini (released by Mumbai Indians), Kiran Navgire (released by UP Warriorz), Heather Graham, and Jess Jonassen, while a total of 30 players have registered at INR 30 lakh.

Deandra Dottin, an all-rounder from the West Indies, was released by UPW, and Alana King, a legspinner from Australia, was released by Delhi Capitals. These are among the notable absentees. After being released by the franchise, Lizelle Lee, who was DC’s highest run-scorer last season, has also not listed herself.

The teams’ appearances prior to the auction

Dunkley and Kira Chathli (INR 10 lakh) are the sole English players who have enrolled for the auction. A number of other players, such as Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Alice Capsey, Dani Gibson, Lauren Filer, and Linsey Smith, have chosen to forgo the WPL next year.

England are anticipated to participate in three Twenty20 Internationals in Sri Lanka in early February, which will coincide with the final week of the WPL, according to Cricinfo. Although it is probable that the ECB will permit players to remain in India to finish the tournament, the majority of players have opted to prioritize their international obligations in anticipation of the Champions Trophy later that month.

It is also believed that the relatively low salaries offered by the WPL are a contributing factor to the decision of many English players not to register. In contrast, the majority of international players earn significantly more to play in the Hundred (up to £190,000 last year) than the highest permitted base price in the WPL of INR 50 lakh (approximately 40,000 pounds).

Molineux was a member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad that won the title in 2024. He had an economy rate of 7.31 and had taken 12 wickets in ten games.

RCB retained her for the 2025 season; however, she was unable to participate due to a knee injury. Dunkley, on the other hand, competed for the Gujarat Giants in 2023 before declining to enrolll in the 2024 season. The 2025 auction did not result in her sale.

Australia allrounder Grace Harris (released by RCB), Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, South Africa left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, and South Africa allrounder Chloe Tryon are among the premier internationals who have listed themselves for INR 30 lakh each.
