Jonny Bairstow has joined the Melbourne Renegades for the next Big Bash League season, where he will make his debut. The 37-year-old English international will play for the Renegades and be available throughout the season. Bairstow, who has represented England at the highest level in all three formats, brings extensive international experience to the team.
The deal represents a significant addition to the Renegades’ team ahead of BBL 16. Jonny Bairstow has played in 100 Tests for England and won two World Cups. In addition to playing 80 T20 internationals for his country, he has 3,868 runs in 107 ODIs, with 11 hundreds at a strike rate above 100.
He went on to claim that his previous experiences in Australia helped shape his respect for the country’s cricket culture.
Jonny Bairstow is familiar with Australia’s cricket atmosphere and competitive traditions, having visited the country three times for the Ashes in 2013-14, 2017-18, and 2021-22. He recalled prior meetings between Australian and English teams, recognising the historical significance of playing in Australia.

Will Sutherland, the Renegades skipper who played for Yorkshire in the 2025 T20 Blast, will contact Bairstow again. The Renegades will open the BBL 16 season against the Scorchers on December 12 in Chennai.
