Pakistan has replaced Salman Ali Agha as captain of their T20I team for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. Sahibzada Farhan will lead the team. The 15-person squad was announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board on October 5, 2026. Agha was not in the T20I group at all.

The three T20Is will all take place in Rawalpindi on October 9, 11, and 13, 2026. A separate 16-person ODI squad, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, has also been named for a three-match ODI series with England and Sri Lanka. The series starts on October 18 and ends with a final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 31. Farhan is not on that ODI team.

Why did Sahibzada Farhan get to be captain of the T20I team?

In the shortest form, Sahibzada Farhan comes into the part after a good run of form. During the T20 World Cup 2026, he scored 383 runs, which was the most of any player. He also led Pakistan to a silver medal at the Asian Games in 2026, which was his first time as captain of a foreign team.

Agha was Pakistan’s captain at the T20 World Cup in 2026, but he is not in the T20I team at all for this series. His inclusion in the ODI squad under Afridi means that the selectors have decided to separate the two formats and choose a new leader for the T20I.

How does Hasan Nawaz fit in with the team?

Hasan Nawaz is one of the Asian Games players who was kept on in the T20I team, and he comes into the series in great shape. He hit 96 in the Asian Games final against India, which made him one of the most important batters from that tournament.

As part of the tri-series, Nawaz is also named to the ODI team. This means that he will have the chance to play in both types of games during Pakistan’s busy home schedule in October 2026.

Who will play for Pakistan in the T20I match against Sri Lanka?

Abdul Samad (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Khawaja Nafay (wk), Maaz Sadaqat, Muhammad Salman Mirza, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, and Sufiyan Moqim are the players who will bat first.
